Meet Eddie

Eddie was abandoned at a church by his mother in Uganda when he was about 18 months old. Attempts to trace his mom or any relatives were unsuccessful. He was placed in the orphanage in August 2017. This month, he was placed into a foster family. He is a healthy boy, and goes to school.

Meet Cyrus

Cyrus was born in July 2016 and evaluation at the home revealed that he has multiple disabilities, as he cannot stand or even sit without support and he has profound developmental delays. He thankfully does not appear to have a seizure disorder.

Meet Prince

Prince is approximately 4 years old, but he appears younger. Before he was taken in by a kind family in  his village, he had not experienced many joyful moments,  and he wandered the streets, because that’s  how he survived. His meals were not guaranteed. He has made  tremendous strides in the past six months.

Orphans in Uganda

Program in partnership with Love Without Boundaries, Uganda Rural Fund, and Home Free

  • The  children we serve through LWB are older and have significant special needs. They are in foster care and the goal for an abandoned child is  family reunification whenever possible. Foster care options  are being developed more firmly, as we believe so strongly in the importance of  family care for children. Family-based foster  care for a non-relative (versus the common informal kinship care  arrangements) is new in Uganda. The  hope is that appropriate foster families can be found for these children  while they wait for foster care, adoption, or reunification with a  birth family member, but that does not appear to be likely anytime in  the near future, especially for older children with significant special  needs. These children have been designated specifically for Open Hearts  for Orphans, and as you consider sponsoring them financially, we ask  that you please pray for them as well.
  • The children we serve in partnership with Uganda Rural Fund are children of all ages who are either orphaned or abandoned with parents who may be living but the children are not in their care and have unmet needs that we seek to fill through sponsorship.
  • The children we serve in partnership with Home Free, a Canada-based non-profit organization are in family-based foster care. Some of the children are healthy and some have medical needs.
  •  When I sponsor a child, am I the only one helping or are there multiple sponsors for the same child? All  of the programs we support are run in a transparent manner because we want our  donors to know they are directly impacting the lives of children. The  answer to this question varies between programs. For example,  foster care typically requires three to four sponsors to cover all of a child's needs each month. Children in healing homes require multiple sponsors to meet  the running costs of the homes. Most of our education programs have two  to three sponsors per child. Please note that when you donate for sponsorship, you are helping to fund the program itself, which ultimately helps the child you signed up to sponsor. Please email us if you have any questions about our sponsorships.
