Help families say YES to adoption

Give now

Process Overview - "Say Yes" Adoption Grants

As of January 2021, we've given grants to over 55 deserving families in the U.S.! Our primary goal is for children with special needs to be adopted into traditional, two-parent Christian families; however we do give consideration to other families as well on an individual basis. We also offer a special "Downright Lovable" grant for families adopting children with Down syndrom and a "Heart Warrior" grant for families adopting children with CHD.

In an effort to equip our grant families in additional ways, we offer the gift of a strategic prayer partner, a copy of "The Connected Parent" by Lisa Qualls and Dr. Karyn Purvis, and quarterly trauma-informed trainings through Lens Trauma Care.

We determine what financial assistance will be offered (in following with our grant partner, Lifesong for Orphans) based on the following criteria:

  1. Leading of the Holy Spirit as the selection committee prays for wisdom
  2. The needs of the child (special needs, older child, etc.)
  3. The financial need of prospective adoptive parents
  4. Letter showing support from the church you attend
  5. Availability of funds

HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Submit your completed "Say Yes"  grant application (download below) after your homestudy is complete and you have been matched with a child.
  2. To comply with IRS guidelines and ECFA best practice, we must receive your complete application before a child is placed in your home.
  3. Due to the volume of applications received, please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing.
  4. We will prayerfully consider your request and make a determination, indicating the specific amount (if approved). You will receive notification from Open Hearts for Orphans via email at that time.
  5. If you requested any of the additional funding resources through Lifesong, they will make contact with you directly.
  6. Any questions or status updates can be sent to openheartsfororphansorg@gmail.com

"SAY YES" - IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LIFESONG FOR ORPHANS

WHY LIFESONG?

We've aligned ourselves with Lifesong for these reasons:

  • They are a trustworthy organization with a history of being good stewards with ECFA Accreditation.
  • They share our same belief system.
  • They are committed to giving 100% of our donations to the families who need the funds.
  • Aligning with Lifesong allows our grant families to additionally apply for financial assistance through interest-free loans, matching grants, and personal crowdfunding sites.

The History of our "Say Yes" grant

  • In 2016,  our "Say Yes"  adoption grants started as a $300 reimbursement for a  family's application fee - one of the initial points at which they gave  their YES to the adoption process.
  • In 2017, we were able to increase that amount to $350.
  • In 2018, as agency application fees rose, our grants grew to $500 PLUS a strategic prayer partner from Ignite Hope, a special ministry devoted to prayer in the process.
  • In 2019, we were able to double our impact and give families $1,000 that will not only offset their application fee, but will also begin helping them chip away at those next steps in the process..
  • In 2020, our grants range from $1,000 - $2,000 and families have access to many additional funding opportunities through Lifesong for Orphans, our grant partner.
  • In 2021, our grants increased to $2,000. We are grateful to offer complimentary copies of "The Connected Parent" to our grant recipients, along with quarterly trauma-informed virtual training by Trauma Lens Care.

Our New Year Appeal

This year, we have chosen to KEEP our focus on our "Say Yes" adoption grants. The process is costly, and it  is a tangible way that we can lock arms with American families and help  the thousands of children with special needs around the world who are  adoptable.

"extraordinary" - an inspirational compilation of thirteen beautiful stories chronicling the adoptions of children with Down syndrome. This labor of love, compiled by Cady Driver and published by JPV Press, will make you laugh and cry, and it will touch your heart.

The best part is that all of the royalties for this book are being given to Open Hearts for Orphans to help more families adopt children with Down syndrome through our "Say Yes"™  grant program.
